INTERNET MARKETING – A BOON OR A BANE?

December 10th, 2009

I went to my cousin’s house this weekend for a function and something I heard there made me wonder at today’s world. A 10 year old kid was asking his grandfather how he could survive without computer let alone INTERNET. This made me ponder over what the kid said and as I was coming home from the function, I was giving this concept a deep thought.

How much has INTERNET changed our life?? Well I for one cannot think a life without computer or internet. It has become a part of my life and I hope you will also share the same feelings. Well let’s get more focused into this. As we all know in today’s world computer is the base for any profession. The most interesting part of it is the INTERNET MARKETING.

Some time back I remember watching Tele marketing programs in TV where they used to show the product in all its glory and tempt audience to dial and buy it. Well this is the same concept with internet marketing too. They attract the browser with their ads and promos in websites that we visit.

Let me ask you one question. How many of you exactly think this marketing is for the betterment? Well if your answer is yes then you are an opportunist and believe in making life easier by just ordering from your comfort and have lots of money at disposal. Is that it?? I don’t think so!!

Let’s look at both the side of the coin. Internet marketing has both its advantages as well as disadvantages. Some are tempting; this involves the same tactics the advertisements have on us. It’s called emotional advantage over audience. Attractive graphics on screen attracts us and if we can relate the offer shown with ourselves then it’s well and good.

For example the ads we see when we log into search engines; we might have typed some search key but it will take you to some advertising of a product and at times a successful marketing can grab our attention and allure us to buy the product in the end. Does it not??

At the same time some can be of unethical background and just for the sake of selling the products, unethical certification of the product is given.  I myself was a victim of such advertising! I bought a walkman some 5 years back in eBay and it did not work for more than a couple of days and thus I ended up wasting money on such marketing.

I hope you will take me as an example and not waste your money on internet marketing and rather THINK BEFORE YOU LEAP!

BEAUTY has its COST

November 30th, 2009

Few days back as I was walking home from gym, I was wondering at the amount of money and time I waste on beautifying myself. One part of me argues saying that “ you should be proud of who you are and how you look” as the rational part of me peeked out immediately my irrational part chided saying “ Well don’t you think …one has to take pains to present themselves as the saying goes “ First impression is the best impression”.

On one hand if you take the advantage of beautifying – when we meet a person for the first time we should be presentable enough to amuse them with our charm so that it ensures further relationship with the person. Being a college girl, it is only natural for me to have such feelings right? I would want to make the best out of my looks and charm people with them. So to achieve it, I have to undergo pain and do hard work (exercise every day for an hour or so) to look fit and stay lean. This is my point of view; where as if I ask my mother she will argue saying her famous quotes “for you to shed weight my purse is also shedding its weight” and as always I argue back saying the wise words “NO PAIN NO GAIN”. For all the money she pays for the gym, I can’t lose weight unless I work hard. So much for speaking sense, for it will only get me a shrewd snubbing “if hard work is what you are looking for then you can gain it by doing household works, If not anything at least a less messy room of yours!” (Well now…she has got a point there. But it’s only natural for her to say that since she is the one paying!)

But on the other hand over a point of time we do get frustrated when the results of our toil are slow and gradual. We always look for instant effect and so we never mind about the amount or the extent we go to achieve it. So at the end of the day everything costs.

SLAVES OF TECHNOLOGY!

November 11th, 2009

In one of my script writing classes we had this fun activity we were given 10 random words and were asked to write a short story using these words in the same tense as it was given in and we were allowed to use the word only once. In the beginning I grumbled like all others in the class and thought it a waste of time. But as I started writing the story I found the challenge exciting and at the end of the hour my professor said it is an exercise we need to implement when we have writer’s block.

Yesterday I was sitting in front of the pc with the infamous writer’s block. So I thought I could try the exercise my professor told us. I started jotting down words that came to my word when I thought of technology. TECHNOLOGY – INTERNET – SOCIAL NETWORK SITES – FACE BOOK – FARM VILLE – ADDICTION – MOBILE PHONE – MESSAGING – LACK OF SLEEP – STRESS – LOSS OF APPETITE  – DEATH.

Well… see how the mind works!! I just jotted down the first word that came to my mind when I thought of technology and the train of thoughts correlated with one another and the last word that struck me was death. Now let’s piece this together into a story.

Internet being a major advancement in technology has social networking sites like face book that has interactive games like Farmville to which my friends have major addiction that they can’t part with it. So they play it even in their mobile phones apart from using it for messaging. Since they spend so much time on it there is lack of sleep along with it they juggle their works which leads to stress. Drastic effects of such cases cause loss of appetite which if prolongs will lead to death.

Is it not marvellous that a mere train of random words that comes to our mind can make so much sense?? Well are we so addicted to technology that we dig our own graves??

Let’s be wise and take the famous proverb “TOO MUCH OF ANYTHING IS POISON TO ONE’S SELF” and act sensibly and draw line where it is necessary.

STRESS IS THE ROOT CAUSE FOR EVERYTHING!!

October 21st, 2009

Stress is one cursed term which is used by every person in every other profession as an excuse or rather a reason for their instability or imbalance in social as well as private life. What they are blissfully unaware of is the consequences of this stress.

Recently there was a survey done on this issue and i got a mail regarding the consequences. You won’t believe it but i was shocked at some of the results of STRESS. WELL IM STRESSING ON THIS WORD STRESS because it is high time we pay attention to stress and find a solution to live life rather than live stressful life.

The mail is about a CEO of a company who had died due to heart attack, was an avid marathoner and a fitness freak. Well this confirms on a lighter note the fact which most of us are unaware that whether you are fit or not you are prone to heart attacks. IS THAT IT? I don’t think so. I hope you will agree with me on this point. The mail says that he died due to lack of sleep.

Well does this fact not throw a new light to the STRESS issue?????

Stress is the root cause of all the problems the body faces; be it heart attack or loss of appetite or face full of pimples – STRESS has major percentage to contribute for their occurrence.

For everything there needs to be a right balance. Overdoing of anything or not doing anything at all will have drastic effects. So why don’t we work to strike a right balance between work and life. Our example kept his body fit but failed to keep his mind fit because he didn’t give it enough rest to bargain his life ; As a result  it attacked him in the form of lack of sleep .

So my humble request to you all is sleep well. Is it too much to bargain for a long healthy life??? I suppose not! So have an ideal sleep for at least 6 -8 hours, so that the body is given ample time for mental consolidation and rebuilding and repairing of the physic.
